Growing chess in Chris Hani

The Chris Hani Chess Association (CHCA) was established in 2021 and founded by Luzuko Ndinise, its first President, to promote, develop and administer the game of chess throughout the Chris Hani District. Since its inception the association has worked closely with local clubs, schools, communities, municipalities, departments and sporting structures to give players of all ages a way into organised chess.

Over the years it has grown from hosting local tournaments to coordinating district-wide competitions, leagues, training programmes and talent identification initiatives. Through its commitment to youth development, education and excellence, CHCA has become one of the leading chess development structures in the Eastern Cape.

The association continues to create pathways for players, coaches, arbiters and administrators to compete provincially, nationally and internationally, while using chess as a tool for educational advancement, critical thinking, discipline and social development.
