Our History

The Chris Hani Chess Association (CHCA) was established in 2021 and found by Luzuko Ndinise its first President and Founder to promote, develop, and administer the game of chess throughout the Chris Hani District. Since its inception, the association has worked closely with local clubs, schools, communities, local municipalities, departments and sporting structures to provide opportunities for players of all ages to participate in organized chess activities.

Over the years, the association has grown from hosting local tournaments to coordinating district-wide competitions, leagues, training programmes, and talent identification initiatives. Through its commitment to youth development, education, and excellence, CHCA has become one of the leading chess development structures in the Eastern Cape.

The association continues to create pathways for players, coaches, arbiters, and administrators to participate at provincial, national, and international levels while using chess as a tool for educational advancement, critical thinking, discipline, and social development.
